2025 Education Awareness Week Photos
April 7, 2025 - Proclamation day
As part of Education Awareness Week, Teach For America partnered with Junior Achievement for a special visit to the Rhode Island State House with students from Hope High School in Providence.
Students attended a mock legislative session to debate and vote on actual bills, heard from elected officials on their first jobs and a teacher who made an impact on them. Thank you, Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos, Secretary of State Gregg Amore, R.I. General Treasurer James Diossa, Speaker Joe Shekarchi, Rhode Island Senate Jake Bissaillon, Senator Sam Zurier, State Senator Tiara Mack and Michelle Carr Leadership Rhode Island
for joining us and sharing you experience with students.
Students attended a JA Job Shadow to meet with government leaders receive a tour of the state house. Thank you, Secretary of State Gregg Amore, R.I. April 8, 2025 - Financial Literacy Day
Students from Nathanael Greene Middle School visited Citizens Headquarters in Johnston on April 8 as part of Education Awareness Week with Teach For America.
Throughout the day, students participated in engaging, hands-on activities led by Citizens volunteers including work readiness Jenga, a career exploration session on finance and banking facilitated by Marcela Betancur from Bank Forward, a tour of the Citizens campus, and the Keeping Score financial literacy game. April 11, 2025 - JA Leaders day
Education Awareness Week continued on April 11 with a JA in a Day event at Hoxsie Elementary School in Warwick.
JA Rhode Island board members and volunteers spent the day in classrooms, teaching students important lessons about how money works, the jobs that exist in their community, and how to start a business.
Special thanks to Mayor Frank Picozzi, members of the Warwick School Committee, Principal Gary McCoombs, and Casey Riley, Chairman of the JA Rhode Island Board and chief operating officer at Newport Restaurant Group, for joining us in the morning to welcome our volunteers to Hoxsie. April 11, 2025 - CONGRESSIONAL Leaders day
We closed out Education Awareness Week with Congressional Leaders Day at Fidelity Investments in Smithfield.
Thank you to Congressman Gabe Amo, Deputy Commissioner Lisa Odom-Villella from the Rhode Island Department of Education, and Laura Fusco representing Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, for joining us and speaking with students from Community Preparatory School.
