Award Profile
Courageous Thinking and Action
When young banker Kevin Tracy was welcomed into the Class of 2004 Leadership Rhode Island (LRI) program, he quickly learned the value of leading by example. To fulfill the LRI goals of shared experiences that positively impact individuals and improve the community, he set an example by becoming active in several nonprofit organizations, joining the boards and rising to leadership roles in each organization. The confidence he gained and the courageous leadership skills he perfected through these experiences helped him succeed in his career, advancing from a relationship manager to Market Executive in 2006. In that role, he has helped improve the bank’s footprint in Rhode Island by expanding resources and overseeing the business integration efforts throughout all lines of business in Rhode Island.
Vision and Innovation
Committed to supporting the economic development of the community, Kevin became active in the Pawtucket Foundation, a private organization dedicated to improving the economic vitality of the community by working regularly with local business owners and community leaders. As current co-chair of the organization, he is instrumental in helping to drive the development of the vacant or under-used mill space in downtown Pawtucket into a thriving urban center with residences, restaurants, cultural activities, start-ups and public amenities. Currently the Foundation is focusing on building a commuter train station and transit hub to bring people to the revitalized area. Expected to open in early 2021, this development will be key in supporting economic activity in all of Blackstone Valley with over 150 acres of transit oriented development potential and 2 million square feet of vacant or under utilized mill space.
Inspiring Leadership
A dedicated volunteer, Kevin has been named to the Bank of America honor role for the past two years for contributing more than 100 hours per year in community service to various organizations in the RI area. He is currently on the board of, and has been past chair of, both the YMCA of Pawtucket and Junior Achievement. He is also a past president of the Pawtucket Rotary and the local alumni board of Brown University. Kevin is also Chair-elect of the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce.
Community Mindedness
Business engagement with local nonprofits is a key factor of success for communities. Kevin understands the critical roles nonprofit organizations play, such as providing shelter, feeding the hungry and empowering youth to get on a path to economic success. He is an ambassador for many organizations throughout the state and works to advance their missions by providing strategic direction, governance and leadership in philanthropic and advocacy efforts. He is also an active volunteer and current and past board member for many of Rhode Island’s great nonprofit organizations, including Junior Achievement, Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce, the Business Development Company of RI and the Pawtucket Foundation.
JA Mission Moment
Twenty-five years ago, I got involved with Junior Achievement and taught a 7th grade class for JA in a Pawtucket-based school. The students were so receptive to the learning opportunity provided during that seven-week period that I was inspired to do more. Later, I joined the JA Board and after serving for five years I became part of the Executive Committee. In 2014, I became Development Chair and then Chair of the board from 2016-2018. During that time, JA had a unique opportunity to launch a new signature program called JA Inspire. I knew this career-readiness program could make a real difference for our Rhode Island 8th graders. Working with the board and staff, we implemented the program in March of 2018, and by 2020, JA Inspire will be reaching all Rhode Island 8th graders.
